Awesome Weekend!
Sometimes it’s the simple things that make for a really great time. Friday after work, we had drinks with Tim & Wendy (our friends/neighbors) and then had dinner at Doc Chey’s, which is one of my favorite restaurants.
We got up early Saturday morning to do the Romp & Stomp, which is a 5K race associated with Cabbagetown’s annual festival, called the Chomp & Stomp. Considering that I have not been consistent about running lately, I was pleased with my time – 24:01. After showering/napping for a little while, we went back to the Chomp & Stomp to sample the chili that the restaurants in the area made. My two favorites were from The Vortex and Redfish. But then again, I’ve never had bad food at the Vortex! I tried to score their cornbread recipe (which is the best anywhere!), but alas, I was unsuccessful.
I had a last minute show on Saturday night at the Hungry Ear Coffeehouse. I sang there just a few months ago, but due to a last minute cancellation, I was able to fill in. I had a great time. First, I had an AWESOME surprise that night. When my CD came out on CD Baby, there was a lady from the Nashville area who didn’t know me from Adam, but she previewed it and bought it the day it was released. She was my FIRST online sale ever. I wrote her to thank her and we’ve kept in contact since then. Anyway, she and her sister in law, Lela, were in town for the weekend and she saw that I would be playing, so she came to the show. She came up and asked me if I remembered her and told me who she was. Of course I remembered her!
I opened the evening and I was pleased with my set. Afterwards, Eric and I sat with Barbara and Lela and had a really nice evening with them. The musical acts that night were really good. But my favorite act had to be a group of women called Cheaper Than Therapy, who sing acapella. They are excellent musicians! But when you combine their musicianship with their eclectic song selection, the way they put their show together, plus the individual personalities of the women coming through – well, they were simply amazing. I think I smiled and laughed during their whole set. I told them if they ever admit a guy to the group, I want to be the first one. If you have the chance to see them, by all means go! Their website is www.cheaperthantherapy.com.
Anyway, it was a very enjoyable weekend with a few nice surprises thrown in. How was your weekend?
